PORTRAIT IN THE CLOUDS (2023) - MONICA SHULMAN

Portrait in the Clouds was created in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic as part of a collection that examines ideas around self-reflection, the human condition, community and identity. ARTIST BIO: Monica Shulman is a self-taught photographer and artist whose brand of gestural abstraction and diverse mark making is a form of storytelling. Monica engages the medium itself, specifically oil paint and oil pastel, as a participant in both her abstract and figurative works. A first-generation American of Cuban and Argentinian descent, who left her career as an attorney to focus on her art practice full-time, Monica lives and works in the lower Hudson Valley with her husband and their children.
