Coalescence

Coalescence (Coalescence) invites viewers into a space where textured extrusions blur the lines between micro and macro forms. Observing from a drone-like perspective, this interplay of textures and layers evokes ambivalence, allowing for the projection of the viewer’s imaginative perspective and interpretation, inviting contemplation on the nature of perception and the emotional responses these forms elicit. Rooted in Sébastien Pitt’s Segments series, this piece embodies his approach of crafting dreamscapes that merge perception and affect. Created with a custom MAX8 patch for 3D audiovisual performance, each scene features intricate 3D structures with vertex displacement and transparency shaders, creating evolving textures and layered depths in a 360° rotation at 0.01 Hz. Rendered at 4K vertical @60fps in a 50-second loop, it uses ProRes 4444 and CPU-compressed H.264 via FFmpeg.
