Brûlis (Slash and Burn) envelops viewers in a vibrant tapestry of warm hues, where oranges and yellows flicker like flames against the darkness. The slow rotation reveals static vertex flares that accentuate the dynamics of vertical, oblique, and horizontal patterns, suggesting inherent energy. This invites vivid feelings through the radiant colors, while simultaneously introducing discomfort and dissonance brought forth by the moiré, subtly gaslighting our perceptions. Rooted in Sébastien Pitt’s Segments series, this artwork conjures dreamscapes that weave between perception and affect. Generated with a custom MAX8 patch for 3D audiovisual performance, each scene features 3D structures, vertex displacement, and transparency shaders, creating dynamic textures and layered depths with a 360° rotation at 0.01 Hz. Rendered at 4K vertical @60fps in a 100-second loop with ProRes 4444 and CPU-compressed H.264 via FFmpeg.
