Hauts-reliefs (Ridges) offers a bird’s-eye view where luminous oscillations create a vibrant composition of color and form, prompting reflection on the trials of ambition and the steps we deem necessary in pursuit of dreams. Confronting challenges head-on, the ridges block our paths yet guide us toward undiscovered peaks, unveiling clarity amid obstacles. The contrast between the bright foreground and vibrant outcrops evokes a quest for perspective, weaving a narrative of stability and change. This piece, part of Sébastien Pitt’s Segments series, embodies his approach of crafting dreamscapes that merge perception and affect. Created with a custom MAX8 patch for 3D audiovisual performance, each scene features intricate 3D structures with vertex displacement and transparency shaders, creating evolving textures and layered depths in a 360° rotation at 0.01 Hz. Rendered at 4K vertical @60fps in a 100-second loop, it uses ProRes 4444 and CPU-compressed H.264 via FFmpeg.
